| 2010: Commuter Cycling Century Challenge |
|
|
Welcome to 2010, the fifth year for this thread and another great year for Bike Journal commuter cyclists. So, how are you doing? Do you have any stories to share? What is motivating you to seek the benchmark of 100 commuting-days or the super-benchmark of 200?
This thread was started by Anquetil63 in 2006. He also started the Commuter Cycling Century club. This thead has inspired many of us to commute more than we ever dreamed was possible. In Anquetil63's words: "The Commuter Cycling Century has a simple goal......each member attempts to ride to and from work on at least 100 days in a 12-month period." Newcomers, please read post numbers 1 and 2. See post number 2 for definitions and acronyms. Previous annual CCCC threads: 2006, 2007,2008 and 2009
Last update on August 29, 2010 at 0820 hrs CDT through post #2972. Total Riders = 80 Click on this link to see the table directly: CCCC Table in PDF format

Here is a quick recap on how we count commutes for the purposes of this thread:
Rule 1: Each round-trip commute counts as 1 commuting-day. Rule 2: Each one-way commute counts as 0.5 commuting-day. Rule 3: Limit of one commuting-day per calendar day. Rule 4: Mixed-mode commuting is perfectly fine. (E.g., HOME-bike-train-taxi-WORK-taxi-train-bike-HOME, etc. Rule 5: Please put all table update info (ride number, milestone dates, MDAS changes, etc) in the first line of your post. I sometimes scan over 100 posts for an update and this helps a lot.
These rules are not hard-and-fast. They have been mutually agreed upon over the 4-year lifespan of this thread. The rules are in place mainly to provide some degree of confidence that we are all comparing apples to apples.
Accounting and verification I make no attempt to verify or check the accuracy of anyone's postings. Obvious math errors, such as 10 commuting-days in a week or other obvious discrepancies, may prompt a request for clarification. However, for the most part we operate on the honor system.
Helpful hint for newcomers: When logging your commutes, be sure to set the "Ride Category" as "Commute". Then you can set up a filter (premier members only) to show only commuting rides---then just divide the number of rides by 2 and you have your commuting-days. This methods avoids counting day-by-day.

Definitions:
MDAS = Most Direct And Safe: The most direct and safe round-trip distance between your home and workplace. PCW = Perfect Commuting Week: Commuted by bike every day that you went to work during a given week. 6/6, 5/5, 4/4, 3/3, etc. By definition, you can't do any better than this. PCM = Perfect Commuting Month: The monthly equivalent of a PCW. PCY = Perfect Commuting Year: The annual equivalent of a PCW. C4 = Commuter Cycling Century Challenge
PCW, PCM, PCY Notes: A PCW, PCM, or PCY string is NOT broken if on a given day a rider does not ride to work for any of the following reasons: working at home. working away from home on an out-of-town work assignment.
